HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford College captured its
fifth straight Centennial Conference victory, defeating rival Swarthmore
College 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-19) Wednesday evening at Gooding Arena.
The Fords, who have defeated the Garnet three times in a row since
2004, had three players record double-digit kills and dig totals
in the match.
Freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo led the
way offensively for Haverford, registering a team-high 15 kills
along with a .517 hitting percentage and 12 digs. Freshman outside
hitter and twin sister Rachel Salvo had 11 kills, a team-high 18
digs, and a service ace, while junior outside hitter Laura Nuyen
recorded ten kills and 15 digs. Junior setter Emily Hinchcliff dished
out 42 assists, while junior outside hitter Dana Mullenhard contributed
12 kills, five digs, three assists and a service ace to the win.
As a team, Haverford registered a season-best .306 match hitting
percentage.
Haverford improved to 21-4 overall and 7-2 in Centennial play with
the win, while Swarthmore slipped to 12-13 and 3-7.
Head coach Amy Bergin's Fords will look to capture their 22nd victory
in their last match of the regular season on Saturday when they
host Centennial opponent Dickinson at 1:00 p.m. The last time Haverford
had 22 wins in a season was in 2002. Then first-year head coach
Bergin's team finished 2002 with a 22-10 overall record.
