Haverford Goes 1-1 in First Day at Seven Sisters
SOUTH HADLEY, MA - Haverford College split a
pair of matches Saturday in the first day of action at the 2006
Seven Sisters Volleyball Tournament. The Fords bested Tournament
host Mt. Holyoke, 3-0 (30-25, 30-13, 30-20),
but fell to Smith 0-3 (21-30, 24-30, 28-30) in their second match
of the day. Haverford's overall record now stands at 16-4.
In the first match of the day, Haverford's offense was powered by
freshman middle hitter Rachel Salvo's 11 kills and .500 hitting
percentage in the match, along with junior setter Emily Hinchcliff's
32 assists. Junior outside hitter Dana Mullenhard earned seven points
for Haverford at the service line, followed by Hinchcliff's five
aces and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Laura Nuyen collected 10
kills and 11 digs in the victory for Haverford.
The Fords were led by 17 kills and 20 digs from Nuyen along with
25 digs from freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo in the loss to
Smith. Rachel Salvo had 11 kills and 18 digs, while
Hinchcliff tallied 38 assists.
Haverford will return to action Sunday in its second day of competition
at the Seven Sisters Volleyball Tournament.
