Fords Rally Past Green Terror, 3-2
WESTMINSTER, MD - Head coach Amy Bergin's Haverford
College volleyball team found themselves down two games to none
early, however, the Fords rallied to win the next three games en
route to a 3-2 (20-30, 29-31, 30-28, 30-19, 15-8) victory over Centennial
Conference opponent McDaniel. The Fords (20-4 overall, 6-2 Centennial)
have won 20 matches for the first time since 2002 when that squad
recorded 22 victories.
Haverford was led by freshman middle hitter Rachel Salvo, who registered
a triple-double with 12 kills, 12 assists digs along with ten digs.
Junior outside hitter Laura Nuyen tallied 14 kills and 11 digs,
while freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo collected 26 kills and
15 digs.. Junior setter Emily Hinchcliff saw her first action since
being injured in the Johns Hopkins match, and dished out 42 assists
in Saturday afternoon's victory. Junior outside hitter Dana Mullenhard
also put together a solid match with 12 kills, and eight assists.
Today's win marks the third consecutive time Haverford has beaten
McDaniel by a match score of 3-2, dating back to October 23, 2004.
This afternoon's victory also gives coach Bergin 97 career wins
as the head coach of the Fords volleyball team. Bergin's career
record at Haverford, since 2002, currently stands at 97-46 (.678
winning percentage). She is already only 41 wins away from having
the most coaching victories in Haverford volleyball program history.
Haverford is currently tied with Dickinson for third place in the
Centennial Conference standings, and will face them in the final
match of the regular season next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
However, before the Fords take on the Red Devils, they will host
and do battle with Centennial foe Swarthmore on Wednesday at 7:00
p.m.
