Haverford Takes Two at Dutchmen Invitational;
Improves Overall Record to 11-1
ANNVILLE, PA - Haverford College improved its
overall record to 11-1 Friday evening with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-21,
30-25 victory over Penn State-Altoona and a 3-2 (30-24, 30-27, 24-30,
23-30, 15-12) win over tournament host Lebanon Valley College. With
the victories, the Fords extend their current winning streak four
matches.
The Fords won the first match earlier in the afternoon handily over
PSU-Altoona by scores of 30-17, 30-21, 30-25. Junior outside hitter
Laura Nuyen and freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo led the Haverford
attack with 12 kills each. Rebecca Salvo added a team-high 17 digs
while Nuyen had 15 of her own. Freshman middle hitter Rachel Salvo
tallied nine kills, 14 digs, a team-high four blocks and three service
aces, while junior defensive specialist Carly Layfield also had
three service aces along with 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Dana
Mullenhard registered ten kills and two blocks, and junior setter
Emily Hinchcliff had 37 assists and two service aces in the victory
over PSU-Altoona.
Haverford took the first two games over Lebanon Valley in the nightcap,
but couldn’t finish off the Flying Dutchwomen until game five,
which HC won, 15-12. Nuyen had 16 kills along with 19 digs, while
Hinchcliff tallied 53 assists and a team-high 20 digs. The Salvo
sisters once again had a spectacular match. Rachel Salvo registered
a team-high 17 kills along with 23 digs, while Rebecca had ten kills,
and a team-high 25 digs.
Mullenhard had 12 kills and three blocks, while junior middle hitter
K’Lynn Solt registered a team-high six blocks. Layfield also
had 19 digs in the Fords nail-biting victory.
Haverford returns to action at 9:30 Saturday morning for its second
meeting of the season against Centennial Conference foe Ursinus,
