BALTIMORE, MD - Despite losing its starting setter
in game one due to injury, visiting Haverford College defeated Centennial
Conference host Johns Hopkins, 3-2 (30-21, 36-34, 12-30, 23-30,
15-10), Saturday afternoon. Junior outside hitter Laura Nuyen and
freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo each led the Fords with 15
kills.
Haverford junior setter Emily Hinchcliff left the match during
game one with a twisted ankle. The trio of juniors Dana Mullenhard,
Jordan Thompson along with freshman Rachel Salvo stepped up and
took over the setting duties for Hinchcliff and head coach Amy Bergin's
Fords, helping lead Haverford to the five game match victory. In
addition to her 15 kills, Nuyen added four blocks. Rachel Salvo
and junior middle hitter K'Lynn Solt contributed ten kills a piece
in the win. Rachel Salvo also added a team-high six blocks, while
Solt had five.
The Fords have won four of their past five matches, and improved
their record to 18-4 overall and 4-2 in Centennial play with the
win. The Blue Jays fell to 11-12 and 2-4.
Haverford travel to Centennial opponent Bryn Mawr on Thursday evening
for a 7:00 p.m. match.
