Franklin & Marshall Holds Off Haverford
HAVERFORD, PA - Visiting Franklin & Marshall
overcame a 24-28 deficit in game four en route to a 3-1 victory
over host Haverford in Centennial Conference volleyball action on
Friday evening. Freshman outside hitter Rebecca Salvo led the Fords
with a team-high 19 kills and 27 digs in the loss.
The Fords (13-2 overall, 1-1 Centennial) came out
of the gates a step off, which the Diplomats took full advantage
of by taking game one 30-22. Haverford, down 21-29 in game two,
rallied back to 27-29 before F&M (7-2, 3-0) was finally able
to capture the game point. The Fords momentum from game two carried
over to game three. Haverford posted an impressive 30-18 win in
the third game. Haverford, up 28-24, appeared ready to take game
four, however, F&M was able to score six straight points to
take the game, 30-28, preventing a fifth game in the best of five
match.
Junior outside hitters Dana Mullenhard and Laura Nuyen,
along with freshman middle hitter Rachel Salvo each collected 12
kills in the match. Rachel Salvo also added 23 digs, while Nuyen
had 22. Junior setter Emily Hinchcliff contributed 50 assists and
15 digs. Mullenhard, junior defensive specialist Jordan Thompson
and sophomore outside hitter Lisa Perkins each had 12 digs.
Haverford will return to action at Centennial Conference
foe Muhlenberg on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
