Salvo Sisters Lead Haverford Past Eastern, 3-0
ST. DAVID'S, PA - Visiting Haverford College improved
its overall record to 9-1 with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-20, 30-23) non-conference
shut out victory over Eastern University on Wednesday evening. Freshmen
twin sisters Rebecca and Rachel Salvo registered double-digit kills
and digs totals in the victory for the Fords.
Outside hitter Rebecca Salvo tallied a team-high 14
kills along with 19 digs, while middle hitter Rachel Salvo recorded
13 kills, ten digs, and three blocks. Junior outside hitter Dana
Mullenhard added 11 kills and two service aces. Junior outside hitter
Laura Nuyen had a team-high 22 digs along with seven kills and three
blocks, and junior setter Emily Hinchcliff recorded 42 assists.
Junior defensive specialist Carly Layfield also contributed 11 digs
in the Haverford victory.
Tonight's match is the fifth straight match that Rebecca
Salvo has recorded double digit totals in kills and digs. Tonight's
match was also the fifth match in a row that Nuyen has had at least
14 digs. Nuyen's 22 digs tonight were just one dig shy of tying
her season high of 23 digs set against RIT at last weekend's Bomber
Invitational.
The Fords strong start to the 2006 season has not
gone unnoticed, as the team received ten total points in the CSTV/AVCA
Top 25 poll released earlier on Wednesday.
Haverford will look to gain more support from top
25 voters when they take on some of the region's toughest competition
at the Lebanon Valley Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
