Haverford Bests Dickinson, 3-0;
Finishes Third in Centennial
HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford College won its sixth
straight Centennial Conference match, and secured third place for
the upcoming Centennial postseason tournament, with a 3-1 (30-25,
30-17, 27-30, 30-25) victory Saturday afternoon. Haverford freshmen
twin sisters Rachel and Rebecca Salvo, with family from their hometown
of La Cañada, California in attendance, each tied a team-high
with 26 digs in the win.
The Fords, who took the first two games handily, were downed in
the third game, but rallied in game four to finish off the Red Devils.
Rebecca Salvo had a team-high 20 kills along with four aces and
her previously mentioned 26 digs. Rachel Salvo recorded 16 kills
and three blocks, while junior setter Emily Hinchcliff dished out
56 assists and had 21 digs. Junior outside hitters Laura Nuyen and
Dana Mullenhard each had 14 kills, while Nuyen added 20 digs and
Mullenhard racked up a .387 hitting percentage and three blocks
in the match.
Haverford head coach Amy Bergin will be aiming for her 100th career
victory, and a personal best of 23 match wins in a season at Haverford,
as the Fords start the postseason next Saturday at the Centennial
Conference Postseason Volleyball Tournament against an opponent
to be determined. The tournament will be held at Franklin &
Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
