BRYN MAWR, PA - Freshman outside hitter Rebecca
Salvo compiled a team-high 16 kills along with a .455 hitting percentage
to lead visiting Haverford College past host Bryn Mawr 3-1 (30-24,
30-17, 28-30, 30-19) Thursday evening in Centennial Conference volleyball
action. Rebecca Salvo's twin sister, freshman middle hitter Rachel
Salvo, recorded a triple-double in the Haverford victory with 17
assists, 12 kills and 11 digs.
After taking the first two games from Bryn Mawr handily, Bryn Mawr
rallied from a 21-16 deficit to take game three from the Fords,
30-28. Bryn Mawr would start game four up 6-0 on the Fords, however,
head coach Amy Bergin's team slowly got even with the Owls at 15
a piece. Haverford closed out game four with a 15-4 run, en route
to the match victory. As a team, Haverford put together a .486 hitting
percentage in game four, with only one hitting error in 35 attempts.
No Haverford starter had more than four hitting errors in the match.
Junior outside hitter Dana Mullenhard contributed a team-high 26
assists and seven service aces along with 13 digs and six kills,
while junior defensive specialist Carly Layfield notched 22 digs.
Junior middle hitter Iris Early anchored the Fords presence at the
net, registering a team-high six blocks.
With the win, Haverford improved to 19-4 overall and 5-2 in Centennial
Conference play. Bryn Mawr fell to 10-10 and 0-7 on the season with
the loss.
Haverford will travel to take on Centennial opponent McDaniel (12-14,
5-2) for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday. Haverford, McDaniel, and
Gettysburg are tied for third place in the Centennial Conference
standings. Each team has a 5-2 record in conference play with three
conference matches remaining in the regular season.
