Varsity Highlights: 2008-2009
Spring 2009
- 67 spring student-athletes were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
- Charlie Carluccio received an American Baseball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
- Men's outdoor track & field continued their string of Centennial Conference championships with their 16th in a row, extending a stranglehold on a crown no other league team has held since the creation of the conference.
- Dan O'Toole was named Most Outstanding Track Performer at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 1,500 meter run.
- Taylor Burmeister, O'Toole, Chris Southwick and Chaz Thomas were selected to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team.
- Thomas was named Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Centennial Conference Championship and garnered All-American honors in the long jump.
- Both men's and women's track & field teams received 2009 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team honors.
- Women's outdoor track & field captured their fourth consecutive and fifth overall Centennial Conference title.
- Jessie Belden earned All-American in the heptathlon and high jump at the NCAA Championships and received USTFCCCA Mideast Region Field Athlete of the Year honors.
- Belden was selected as the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Centennial Conference Championship.
- Belden, Aileen Keogh and Zoe Welch were selected to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team.
- Doug Mason '81, of the women's outdoor track & field team, was named USTFCCCA Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
- Women's lacrosse coach Julie Shaner Young was named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year.
- Josie Ferri and Liz Koelmel were named Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Second-Team All-Metro Region.
- Men's lacrosse captured its first Centennial Conference regular season title and earned its second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
- Max Hjelm earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American honors.
- Mike Murphy was voted Centennial Conference Coach of the Year in men's lacrosse.
- Dana Irshay and Lisa Karmel were selected to The Jewish Sports Review's 2009 Softball All-America Team.
- Alex Buxbaum of the men's tennis team became the 22nd Haverford student-athlete to receive an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
Winter 2008
- 40 winter student-athletes were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
- Women's indoor track & field took its fourth straight Centennial Conference championship and fifth overall.
- Jessie Belden earned All-American accolades in the pentathlon and received USTFCCCA Mideast Region Field Athlete of the Year honors.
- Belden was selected as the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Centennial Conference Championship.
- Men's indoor track & field won its 10th consecutive Centennial Conference title and 15th overall.
- Chaz Thomas earned All-American honors in the long jump, was named USTFCCCA Mideast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and was named Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Centennial Conference Championship.
- Women's fencing captured the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) championship.
- Emma Buckingham was named EWFC Epeeist of the Year.
- Brittany Lattisaw became the third women's basketball player to score 1,000 points and finished her career with 1,039.
Fall 2008
- 32 fall student-athletes were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
- Head Volleyball Coach Amy Bergin received Centennial Conference Coach of the Year accolades.
- Rachel Salvo (volleyball) was named All-Mid-Atlantic Region and First-Team All-Centennial Conference.
- Rebecca Salvo (volleyball) earned All-American, All-Mid-Atlantic Region and Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors.
- Volleyball won its third straight Centennial Conference championship.
- Emily Lipman, Darian Lunne and Lena Edelstein earned All-Mideast Region honors in women's cross country.
- Lena Edelstein, Lunne, Harper Hubbeling and Lipman garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team honors.
- Both men's and women's cross country teams received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades for competing at the NCAA Regional and having a team GPA of 3.10.
- Adam Care, Panos Panidis, Josh Price, and Brian Pepe-Mooney were named Honorable Mention National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas College Men's Scholar All-East Region.
- Both men's and women's soccer teams were one of 67 schools nationally (Division I, II, III) to be awarded the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for having a team grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0.
- Men's cross country finished 16th at the NCAA Championship.
- Men's cross country runners Mark Burgmann, Taylor Burmeister, Dan O'Toole, Paul Bisceglio, Chris Southwick and Elias Tousley were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
- Burmeister, O'Toole, Burgmann, Southwick and Tousley of the men's cross country team garnered All- Mideast Region honors.
- The field hockey team had the third-highest GPA in the nation among NCAA Division III programs on the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Academic Team Award listing.
