Favorite class?
So far, my favorite class was the one that persuaded me to be a history major: The Age of Enlightenment, taught by Professor Graham, which I took the spring semester of sophomore year. That class was incredibly dynamic, thanks both to the professor and to my fellow students, and I just really enjoyed everything about it. The class showed me that through the study of history, I could continue to learn about a broad set of disciplines. I was very excited by that, because that's why I came to a liberal arts college in the first place.
Thoughts on the Honor Code:
The basic components of the Honor Code--trust, concern, respect--are intrinsic to the atmosphere on campus, and I think that, as a whole, it works very well. I love the fact that we are taken seriously by our professors, coaches, and administrators--they genuinely care about what our opinions are. Being able to take self-scheduled or take-home exams is also great.
Favorite extra curricular activity?
I really like going to other students' musical performances, athletic events, and stuff like that. As for an actual extracurricular activity, I enjoy my time playing with the kids at the after school program at Belmont Charter School in Philadelphia.
What does it mean to you to be a student-athlete?
To me, being a student-athlete isn't much different from being a regular student, except that during soccer season I have to plan out my time better than during the off season. But this often means that I have an easier time getting my work done during the fall, since I know that I need to be on top of things, whereas in the spring it seems like I have all the time in the world. Also, being a student-athlete means that as well as being an individual, you are representing your team and the school with everything that you do.
Favorite place to hang out on campus?
I like the fact that the D.C. is the only dining hall on campus, because that means that it is a very social space. My friends and I often spend more time there than is necessary to eat, just because we like to sit around and talk. But I also like hanging out in the Lunt Cafe and out on Founders' Green, when the weather's nice and everyone's out playing frisbee or lying down in the grass.
