HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College women's
tennis team fell to visiting Washington College, ranked ninth
in the Atlantic South region, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference
match Tuesday afternoon. The Fords fell to 2-7 overall and 0-3
with the loss, while the Shorewomen improved to 4-4 and 2-0.
Haverford hung tough in doubles, as freshmen Jaclyn Porter
and Fumiko Shogase dropped an 8-5 decision to Carie Palmer and
Sarah Macht, as freshman Karen Lavi and senior captain Sarah Loeffler
were edged by Lydia Bull and Kate Barston, 9-8 (5). The number
one doubles team of seniors Alex Glickman and Priya Amar fell
on the short side of a 8-6 decision against Allison Daciek and
Kellie Foster, ranked 27th in the Atlantic South in doubles.
Lavi, Porter and Shogase earned all of Haverford's three points
in singles. Lavi was a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) winner at number three
while Porter took care of Foster, 6-4, 6-2. Shogase cruised to
a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six singles.
Haverford will look for its first Centennial win of the season
Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at Gettysburg.
