ORLANDO, FL - The Haverford women's tennis
team concluded its spring break trip in Orlando, Florida with
a 9-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College. Haverford finished the season-opening
five-match trip with a 2-3 record. Freshman Fumiko Shogase shutout
Whitney Clark at number six singles with a 6-0, 6-0 straight set
victory. Senior Sarah Loeffler and freshman Karen Lavi also kept
their opponents off the scoresheet at number two doubles, winning
8-0.
Senior Alex Glickman won her second
straight match at number one singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over
Alex Hardenbrook. Senior Priya Amar took care of Mary Francis
(6-4, 6-3) at number two singles while Lavi won a three-game thriller
over Jennifer LaChance, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (7). Loeffler and Porter
finished off Colby-Sawyer at numbers four and five singles, respectively.
Loeffler defeated Sarah Zirnkilton (6-1, 6-1) while Porter disposed
of Brittany Mailman (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Glickman and Amar bested Francis and LaChance at number one doubles
with an 8-6 win, while Porter and Shogase earned their first win
of the season at number three doubles with a 8-3 win over Mailman
and Zirnkilton.
Haverford returns to action on Wednesday with its Centennial Conference
opener at Muhlenberg at 4:00 p.m.
