Haverford Falls to #25 Carthage, 2-7
ORLANDO, FL - The Haverford College
women's tennis team dropped its season opener to 25th-ranked Carthage,
7-2, Sunday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. Freshmen Karen Lavi
and Fumiko Shogase picked up wins at numbers four and six singles,
respectively for the Fords.
Lavi was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Carthage's Beth Kaufman at number
four. Shogase defeated Lady Reds freshman Ashley Morgan, 6-3,
6-3, at number six to pick up Haverford's second point of the
day. Senior Sarah Loeffler was the only Ford to go three sets
in singles. Loeffler lost her first set, 4-6 to Gina Klein, but
rebounded with a 6-0 victory in the second set of the match. Loeffler
came up just short in the tie-breaker, falling 4-6.
Haverford will look to capture its first two wins of the season
on Monday in Orlando. The Fords will face Millsaps at 8:00 a.m.
and will then go up against St. Mary's (Indiana) at 4:00 p.m.
