BRYN MAWR, PA - The Haverford women's tennis
team earned its first Centennial Conference victory Tuesday afternoon
with a 8-1 win over host Bryn Mawr Tuesday afternoon. Seniors
Alex Glickman and Priya Amar accounted for three of the Fords
eight team points with wins at numbers one and two singles, respectively,
and at number one doubles. Haverford improves to 3-9 overall and
1-5 in Centennial competition while Bryn Mawr falls to 3-11 and
1-5.
Glickman was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Karen Ginsburg at number one
singles, while Amar defeated Mimi Nguyen 7-6 (7-5), 7-0. Freshman
Karen Lavi took care of Stephanie Aspero in straight sets, 6-3,
6-4, while freshman Jaclyn Porter was a 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-6 winner
over Melissa Mansh at number five. Freshman Fumiko Shogase added
the final singles win for the Fords at number six, narrowly defeating
April Lee 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-7.
Haverford cruised to wins in all of its double matches, while
Glickman and Amar topping Aspero and Nguyen, 8-2. Lavi and senior
teammate Sarah Loeffler topped Ginsburg and Lee, 8-6, while Porter
and Shogase made fairly easy work of Marie Sager and Mansh, 8-5.
The Fords will look to put together consecutive wins for the first
time in 2007 when they travel to Centennial foe McDaniel Saturday
at 1:00 p.m. Match Results
