#30 Haverford Shuts Out Division II Univ. of the Sciences, 9-0
HAVERFORD, PA - Host Haverford College, ranked
30th in Division III and seventh in the Atlantic South region,
downed visiting Division II opponent University of the Sciences,
9-0 on a warm and sunny Monday afternoon in Haverford. The Fords
improve to 8-0 overall on the season with the win, while the Devils
dip to 5-2.
Sophomore's Steve Feder and Dave Merrell earned the Fords first
team point of the day at number three doubles with a 8-0 win over
Ryan Pell and Dave Rubin. Junior Marc Adelberg and sophomore teammate
Tom Kinrade were 8-3 winners at number two doubles over Roberto
Franco and Ricardo Martins, while senior co-captain Elmar Trust
and sophomore Alex Buxbaum rallied from a 5-2 deficit to win at
number one doubles, 9-7.
Adelberg made easy work of Martins, 6-0, 6-2 at number four singles
while freshman Mike Gelberg cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number
five singles. Feder topped Franco in straight sets at number two,
6-1, 6-2, while sophomore Marc Rudolph won beat Paul Caceres at
number three in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-2). Buxbaum
exclaimed 'Vamanos' as he defeated Tyler Weisel at number one,
7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Sophomore Penn Tong rounded out the Fords perfect
match as the sun set with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win at number
six.
The Fords will travel to Salisbury on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m.
match. The Gulls are currently ranked eighth in the Atlantic South.
