Men's Tennis Opens Season With 9-0 Win Over Philadelphia University
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL - The Haverford
College men's tennis team started the 2007 spring season with
a 9-0 win over Division II Philadelphia University on Monday.
The Fords dominated the match, defeating Philadelphia University
in straight sets in all but one singles match and sweeping each
of the three doubles contests, 8-2.
Sophomore Thomas Kinrade defeated Anders Novesky (6-3, 6-3) at
number one singles, while sophomore Evan Stiegel bested Alex Richter
(6-1, 6-3) at number two. Senior co-captain Elmar Trust topped
Mike Abate (6-1, 6-1) at number three with sophomore Kellan Webb
taking care of Boo Burnier (7-5, 6-4) at number four. Freshman
Mike Gelberg won in three sets over Skylar Tibbits (6-1, 6-7 (5-7),
6-1) at number five with junior Marc Adelberg beating Borys Jarosz
(6-0, 6-2) at number six.
Haverford teams of Buxbaum/Kinrade, sophomore Stephen Feder/Trust,
and sophomore Marc Rudolph and Adelberg won all three doubles
contests by a score of 8-2.
The Fords will take on the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday
in Sanlano Park, Florida.
