#13 Johns Hopkins Defeats Haverford, 5-3;
Buxbaum & Kinrade Breeze Past Regionally Ranked Opponents
BALTIMORE, MD - 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins
narrowly escaped the visiting Haverford men's tennis team, 5-3,
Friday afternoon in Baltimore. Sophomore's Alex Buxbaum and Tom
Kinrade accounted for all three of Haverford's team points on
the afternoon, defeating regionally ranked opponents in doubles
and singles. The loss drops Haverford's overall record to 11-2
and 6-1 in Centennial play. Johns Hopkins improves to 13-2 and
7-0, and will host the Centennial Conference Championships next
weekend.
Buxbaum and Kinrade, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region
in doubles, earned the Fords only point in doubles with a 8-6
win over Hillen Smith and Joe Vasoontara, ranked tenth in the
region.
Buxbaum took on Madlow, ranked fifth in the region, and won a
three set thriller at number one singles, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Kinrade
followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Vasoontara, ranked 22nd
in the region, at number two singles. Johns Hopkins came back
with wins at numbers three, four and five singles for it's five
team points, enough to topple Haverford, 5-3. Number six singles
was not played due to darkness.
The Fords will entertain Centennial foe Washington College Saturday
at 11:00 a.m.
