HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College men's
tennis team continues to breeze through its competition after
an 8-1 victory over visiting Centennial Conference opponent Franklin
& Marshall Wednesday afternoon. The Fords, ranked 30th in
Division III and seventh in the Atlantic South region, remain
undefeated at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Centennial play on the season.
The Diplomats fall to 1-5 and 0-2 on the season with the loss.
Head men's tennis coach Sean Sloane shook up his starting lineup
Wednesday, showcasing Haverford's depth. Sophomore Alex Buxbaum
defeated Armen Vartan, 6-3, 6-1, at number one singles while sophomore
Tom Kinrade made easy work of Benjamin Michelman at number two,
6-0, 6-3. Sophomore Steve Feder won in his second appearance at
number three this season, topping Matt Barker 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Marc Rudolph defeated William McGuinness in his first appearance
at number four this season, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Jeff Monhait made
his first start of the spring at number five and took care of
Brett Joseph, 6-1, 6-3. Haverford's only loss of the day came
at number six singles.
Senior co-captains Elmar Trust and Curt Fentress whitewashed the
team of McGuinness and Barker at number two doubles, 8-0, in their
first paired match of the season. Kinrade and sophomore teammate
Evan Stiegel also teamed together for the first time in 2007 and
won 8-4 over Michelman and Vartan. Freshman Mike Gelberg and Webb
won at number three doubles, 8-2 over Joseph and Witt-Landfeld.
The Fords will travel to Centennial opponent McDaniel on Saturday
for a 1:00 p.m. match.
