Haverford College’s Laganosky Selected in Major League Baseball Draft

6/9/08 - Laganosky becomes the first Haverford baseball player drafted in 18 years
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Haverford College junior center fielder Dean Laganosky has been selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 45th round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft.
Laganosky is the first Haverford College player to be taken in the major league draft since Chaon Garland, a right-handed pitcher who was the third round pick of the Oakland Athletics in 1990.
Laganosky, a pre-med student and two-time All-Centennial Conference honoree, hit .344 with 13 doubles, five triples, two home runs 39 runs scored in 2008. He also recorded 55 hits, breaking the Haverford College single-season record, and stole 29 bases, which ranked 17th in the nation. Laganosky collected a hit in 32 of 40 games this season, including 18 multi-hit games. In his three-year career, Laganosky has a .349 batting average, .421 on-base percentage and 71 stolen bases, which is second-most in school history.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Laganosky has helped Haverford College to two Centennial Conference Championship appearances in the last three years.
Laganosky is currently playing summer baseball for the Kutztown Rockies of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.
