Men's tennis just misses Regional titles

10/05/09 – The ITA Southeast Regional completed its tournament on Monday and the Fords fell just shy of a Regional title, or two.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional finally got a break from the weather and completed its tournament on Monday afternoon.
Haverford College's Kevin Caulfield marched from Saturday's opening round of 64 into Monday's Championship Singles draw semifinals before falling to Washington & Lee's Hayden White in two sets. White took the first set quickly, 6-1, but Caulfield battled back in the second only to succumb in a tiebreak, 7-6, (7-4).
In the Blue 2 Singles draw, the Fords' Mike Gelberg stormed into the final dropping only one set in his three lead-up matches. Franklin & Marshall's Ross Silverberg finally ended Gelberg's run, though, defeating the Ford in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) for the B2 championship.
Will Garrett and Hailiu Yang teamed together for Haverford's other march within a winner's bracket, making it into the quarterfinals of the Championship Doubles draw before dropping an 8-3 decision to Jeremy King and Duke Miller from Carnegie Mellon University.
The Regional weekend completes the fall season for the Fords who next hit the courts again in the spring.
