Fords close out women's tennis fall schedule at ITA Regional

09/28/09 – Four Haverford women's tennis players competed at the ITA Southeast Regional over the weekend.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A quartet of Haverford College women's tennis players competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship this past Saturday and Sunday with strong results to close out the fall portion of their schedule.
The doubles pairing of Karen Lavi and Sarah Gibson marched through the Blue 2 draw and were crowned champions on Sunday. The other Haverford doubles tandem of Jaclyn Porter and Fumiko Shogase competed in the Championship draw but lost their opening match then had their weekend end in the consolation round.
Gibson dropped her opening match in the Blue 3 singles draw but battled back all the way into the consolation final before falling, 8-3, to Krisi Noeker from Elizabethtown College.
Lavi (Championship singles draw), Porter (Championship draw), and Shogase (Blue 2 draw) each lost their opening matches and first round consolation matches.
The Southeast Regional attracted players from 25 different teams including other Centennial Conference squads from Johns Hopkins, Swarthmore and Washington (Md.).
