Philadelphia Inquirer honors eight Fords

07/20/09 – Eight spring sport Fords were named to the Philly Inquirer's Academic All-Area teams on Sunday.
PHILADELPHIA – Eight spring sport student-athletes from Haverford College were honored with selections to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area teams as released by the newspaper in Sunday's edition.
Rising senior Andrew Lanham along with recent graduates Dan O'Toole and Chaz Thomas earned All-Area honors in men's track and field while rising senior Eliza Reiss and recent graduate Jessie Belden were voted onto the women's track and field team.
Baseball's Dean Laganosky '09 and rising senior Stefan Pappius-Lefebvre, and rising senior Matt Dooley in men's lacrosse rounded out the Haverford contingent on the All-Area teams.
This is Lanham's second Academic All-Area honor this year after earning the same award in the fall for the cross country season. Both he and O'Toole, a two-time champion at the 2009 Centennial Conference outdoor championship and an NCAA championship participant, were Centennial Spring Academic Honor Roll awardees. Thomas, a two-time event champion at the Centennial's outdoor meet and a 2009 NCAA outdoor long jump All-American, previously was voted onto an Academic All-Area team in men's basketball. The trio helped the Fords capture the outdoor conference title.
Both Belden and Reiss earned Centennial Honor Roll selections and were individual event champions at the conference's outdoor track and field championship won by Haverford in May. Belden won three events at the league meet and went on to earn All-American honors in the heptathlon and high jump at the NCAA championship, and Reiss captured the conference 100 meter hurdles title.
Dooley, a defender on the team's NCAA tournament squad, was a member of the team that won their first Centennial regular season crown in men's lacrosse and was also selected to the league's Academic Honor Roll.
Laganosky, a First-Team All-Centennial outfielder, and Pappius-Lefebvre, Honorable Mention all-conference as well as a member of the league's spring Honor Roll, helped push the baseball team into the Centennial postseason tournament.
The Inquirer sponsors Academic All-Area teams three teams during the year after the fall, winter and spring sport seasons. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. To be considered, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and carry at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average.
