Sloane picks up another men's tennis coaching award

07/07/09 – Haverford men's tennis coach Sean Sloane earned a second Coach of the Year honor this week.
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Yet more recognition has been bestowed upon Haverford College men's tennis coach Sean Sloane as the 2009 Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for men's tennis was recently named the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Middle States men's tennis Coach of the Year.
Sloane led his 2009 Fords to a 12-5 dual match record and into the semifinals of the Centennial postseason tournament. Over the past four seasons Sloane's squads have twice reached the tournament finals and twice played in the semis.
Two players from this past spring's squad, Alex Buxbaum '09 and Thomas Kinrade '09, were First Team All-Centennial in both singles and doubles. Buxbaum would later be honored by the NCAA in late June with one of the organization's postgraduate scholarships becoming the first Haverford men's tennis player to earn one of the coveted awards.
The head coach at Haverford since 1997, Sloane has amassed a 109-72 record with the Fords. Combined with his record while the head coach at Williams (Mass.) College, he owns a 227-151 lifetime mark over 29 years of collegiate coaching.
Sloane has been an active member of the USPTA over the years. He was the 1st Vice President for the USPTA over the 1986-87 season and previously had been the President of the USPTA New England while coaching at Williams in 1973-74. Sloane was named a Master Professional by the USPTA in 1985 and was honored with the USPTA Pro of the Year award in 1986.
