Track teams garner spots on USTFCCCA all-academic squads

07/10/09 - The men’s team had the second-best grade-point average in the country while the women tied for 13th.
NEW ORLEANS – Both of the Haverford College men’s and women’s track & field teams were selected as 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Teams.
Of 56 schools, the men’s team had the second-best grade-point average (3.466) in the country, behind only Colorado College (3.490). The women tied for 13th (out of 100 schools) with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, posting a 3.520 GPA for the 2008-09 academic year. On the women’s side, the Centennial Conference had six member institutions make the cut which tied with four other conferences for the most.
The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the respective Division III Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA. To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.100 cumulative grade-point average.
