07/09/09 - The Haverford contingent were three of 227 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard.
NEW ORLEANS – Jessie Belden, Aileen Keogh and Zoe Welch of the Haverford College women’s track & field team were selected to the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team.
A total of 277 student-athletes representing 91 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
Belden, a recent graduate of the College, left her mark on the women’s track & field program. This year alone she earned All-American honors three times. Belden finished second in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championship in March and went on the finish third in the heptathlon and fifth in the high jump at the outdoor championship.
Keogh and Welch, in addition to Belden, were a part of the Fords’ record setting outdoor 4x400 meter relay team. Their performance at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet (3 minutes, 53.40 seconds) on May 11 was the 20th fastest time in the nation and put the team on the NCAA provisional qualifying list. In addition, that race etched their names into the Centennial Conference record books as the fastest time in league history.
