Another All-American finish for Belden at track and field nationals

Senior Jessie Belden tied her school record in the high jump with a fifth place finish on Saturday at the 2009 national championship meet.
05/23/09 – Senior Jessie Belden earned her second All-American honor at the 2009 NCAA outdoor meet with a fifth place high jump finish on Saturday afternoon.
MARIETTA, Ohio – The 2009 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championship meet came to a close late Saturday afternoon, but before Wartburg (Iowa) was crowned national champion in the women's meet, Haverford's Jessie Belden put forth another All-American effort with her fifth place finish in the high jump event.
The Fords senior cleared a height of 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5 3/4 inches) on her second attempt, tying the school record she set during the heptathlon event at the meet, to finish in a tie for fifth with Erin Hollinger from Case Western (Ohio).
Heptathlon national champion Ashley Huston from Hardin-Simmons won the event clearing a stadium record height of 1.70m (5-7).
Between the high jump and heptathlon events, Belden scored 9.5 points for the Fords which allowed Haverford to finish 30th in the team championship standings.
Wartburg captured the title with 52 points, outdoing runner-up Wisconsin-Oshkosh by just two points and third place Wis.-La Crosse by only four points.
Coupled with her indoor pentathlon All-American honor, Belden joins a star-studded group of multiple national honorees in Haverford women's track.
Belden closes out her career for the Scarlet and Black with three All-American awards, two outdoor and one indoor. Aislinn Sowash '07 finished her time at Haverford accumulating eight All-American awards ( four outdoor, four indoor) leading an honored group that includes Jen Maranzano '94 (two outdoor, two indoor), Annick Lamar '08 (two outdoor, one indoor), and Rachel Mosher '99 (one outdoor, two indoor).
