Smith earns weekly conference honor in softball

05/04/09 – The Centennial Conference honored Fords shortstop Candice Smith with their Player of the Week award.
LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore shortstop Candice Smith was honored as the Centennial Conference Softball Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office.
In four games over the week, Smith batted .462 (6-for-13) and scored six runs for the Fords. She reached base three more times via base on balls helping her post a .563 on-base percentage. Coupled with a slugging percentage of .462 Smith compiled a major league-level 1.025 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).
In the final game of the season for Haverford against Muhlenberg at the Centennial Conference postseason tournament, Smith reached base safely in each of her four at-bats. She singled in her first three times at the plate then walked in her fourth appearance. She scored three of Haverford's runs in an 8-2 triumph over the Mules.
