Four named to Philadelphia Inquirer academic all-area teams

Emma Buckingham was voted Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Performer of the Year.
05/04/09 - Junior women’s fencer Emma Buckingham was voted Women’s At-Large Performer of the Year, senior Greg Rosnick (men’s basketball) and sophomore Max Rosen-Long (at-large for men’s fencing) and senior Evan Stiegel (at-large for men’s squash) were named to the all-area teams.
PHILADELPHIA – Four Haverford College student-athletes have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area teams in their respective sports. Junior women’s fencer Emma Buckingham was voted Women’s At-Large Performer of the Year, senior Greg Rosnick (men’s basketball) and sophomore Max Rosen-Long (at-large for men’s fencing) and senior Evan Stiegel (at-large for men’s squash) were named to the all-area teams. The academic teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Buckingham, double majoring in classic culture & society and archaeology, competes for the Fords in the epee. In 2009, Buckingham led Haverford to a 6-0 record and the Eastern Women’s Fencing Conference (EWFC) championship, the first crown in the program’s history. She was named the EWFC Epeeist of the Year for the second straight year and finished ninth at the NCAA Fencing Regional at Drew University on March 7, coming close to earning her second national championship berth.
Rosnick is a political science major who led the Fords in assists (4.0) and steals (3.0) per game.
Rosen-Long is an english major and claimed a gold medal at the New England Fencing Conference championships in February.
Stiegel, a biology major, led Haverford with seven wins at the No. 1 position this past winter.
