Women's lacrosse falls to No. 3 F&M in season closer

04/18/09 - The No. 3 Diplomats defeated the Fords in the regular season finale for Haverford.
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season on Saturday with a 20-5 loss to defending Centennial Conference (CC) champion Franklin & Marshall.
The Fords (10-6, 4-5 CC) took the early lead over the 3rd-ranked Diplomats on a goal by Josie Ferri in the game's second minute.
F&M (13-1, 8-0) reeled off eight unanswered goals, though, before Ferri could add a second Haverford tally at the 7:34 mark of the opening half.
Jen Schmidt scored twice in the second half with senior Liz Koelmel adding another for the Fords but the potent Diplomats offense posted 11 more goals up on the scoreboard to show that their lofty national ranking is well deserved.
Goalkeeper Siobhan Neitzel made 12 saves for the Fords in defeat.
Though completing the 2009 schedule with a loss, the 10-6 Haverford record in head coach Julie Young's first season is the first winning record posted by the program since a 9-7 campaign in 2005. Their 10 wins is the most in a single-season since 2000 when that team also finished with 10 victories.
