Haverford College Invitational Cricket Tournament Results
Here is a recap from the first four rounds of competition.
April 4th
The University of Delaware beat the University of Pennsylvania in the first 20/20. Penn batted first and scored 103 runs in 20 overs. Delaware achieved the target in 19.1 overs.
Temple beat Villanova by 55 runs. Temple batted first and scored 145 runs in 20 overs. Villanova was 92 for 7 in 20 overs.
April 5th
Haverford College defeated Drexel University. Drexel batted first and scored 120 runs in 20 overs. Charita was the top scorer for Drexel with 46 not out. For Haverford Abhay Puri, Rushil Gambhir, and Karan Shah took three, two and two wickets each for 16, 11, and nine runs. Haverford reached the required runs in 19.3 overs with the loss of only two wickets. Munik Shrestha scored a brilliant 73 not out and Gambhir a solid 25 runs. The first wicket partnership of 100 runs was a new record for Haverford.
Drexel defeated Villanova in the afternoon match by nine runs. Drexel batted first and scored 109 in 20 overs. Villanova gave a tough response but was able to reach only 100 runs.
April 12th
Haverford defeated Delaware in the morning match. Delaware batted first and scored 99 runs in 20 overs. Neil was top scorer with an excellent 46. Adil Khan, Gambhir, and Harsh Mehta took three, two and two wickets respectively for 23, 19, and 17 runs. Haverford reached the target total in 19.1 overs for the loss of three wickets. Shrestha and Gambhir had another fine opening partnership of 85 runs. Shrestha scored a brilliant 44 while Gambhir had an excellent 43 not out.
Villanova had a must win situation to have a chance to qualify for the semifinal. Delaware batted first and scored 109 runs in 20 overs. Villanova reached the target in 19.2 overs and won the match. Parveen had a match winning knock of 68 not out for Villanova.
