Fords fall to Ursinus in OT, 61-55

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women’s basketball team battled back from a 15-point first half to tie the score late in the second half, but missed free throws doomed the Fords in a 61-55 overtime loss to Ursinus College on Wednesday evening at Gooding Arena.
Haverford (6-15, 5-12 CC) held Ursinus (6-18, 5-12 CC) scoreless for the final 6:50 of the first half and turned the deficit from 12 to just three at the half.
The Fords fell behind by 10 points less than six minutes into the second half and continued to trail until a three-pointer by Kathleen Abels with just under four minutes to play tied the score at 44-all. Brittany Lattisaw capped off the comeback on the next possession, giving the Fords the lead on a lay up. The Bears tied the score on a Carolyn Konstanzer lay up, but Abels hit from behind the arc again for a 49-46 HC lead with 2:38 on the clock.
Despite another basket by Konstanzer on the Bears next possession, Haverford was still in command as Abels went to the foul line with 36 seconds on the clock and made one-of-two free throws to hold a two-point lead. Ursinus continued to work the ball into Konstanzer for another lay up that tied the score, 50-50.
Haverford called timeout with 17 on the clock and opted to hold for the last shot. Lattisaw was fouled on an open look in the paint with four second left, but missed both her free throws. Natalie Richman grabbed the carom on the second and was fouled while trying to get a shot up. Richman followed suit and missed both free throws, sending the game into overtime.
Ursinus led the entire extra frame as Alli Rosati hit a trey on the Bears first possession. The Fords countered with an Abels lay up. It remained a one-point game until back-to-back lay ups by Rosati and Konstanzer gave the Bears a four-point advantage with 38 seconds to play.
Abels led the Fords with 18 points and six assists. She connected on four three-pointers. Lattisaw added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Konstanzer had a game-high 24 points on 11-of-14 from the field. Lindsay Tueber posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
Haverford closes out the season hosting archrival Swarthmore College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
