Squash Teams Open Season; Split with Virginia
BALTIMORE, MD - The Haverford men's
squash team defeated the University of Virginia, 5-4, while the
women's team dropped a tough match, 7-2, to Virginia, last Saturday
at Meadow Mill in Baltimore. The men's team starts the 2006-07
campaign with a 1-0 mark, while the women start the season at
0-1.
In the men's victory, Haverford swept positions 1-4. At number
one, junior Alex Salton defeated Virginia's Patrick Whelan, 9-4,
4-9, 9-3, 9-0. Junior Jason Bazarsky took number two, 9-1, 9-6,
9-5, while Jeremy Babener came back to take number three, 3-9,
3-9, 9-1, 9-5, 9-5. Senior Mark Montesano completed the top four
sweep, winning 10-8, 9-0, 9-5. Senior Mark Rubin gave the Fords
their fifth and deciding match at number six, defeating Mike Kaietzger
9-5, 4-9, 9-6, 9-7.
On the women's side, sophomore Jenny Millman was victorious at
number five, 9-7, 9-2, 8-10, 9-5. Sophomore Sarita Kapadia claimed
the Fords second win at number nine with a 3-9, 10-8, 9-3, 9-6.
The men's team will next compete at the Navy Round Robin this
Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The women's squash team will host Franklin
& Marshall and George Washington on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
