Men's Squash Continues Winning Streak;
Women's Squash Earns First Win of Season

HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College men's squash team has now won its last five matches in a row with a 6-3 victory over visiting Columbia Sunday afternoon. The Fords won matches over Penn State (7-2) and Vassar (6-3) on Saturday afternoon. The women's team also defeated Columbia easily on Sunday, 9-0, earning its first win of the 2006-07 season.

In Saturday's 7-2 win over Penn State, Mike Montesano, Adil Khan, Alex Buxbaum, Karan Shah and Jeff Monhait were all victorious in three games at numbers four, six, seven, eight, and nine, respectively. Evan Stiegel bested Dave DiDonato (9-1, 9-5, 6-9, 7-9, 9-6), and Paul Koprowski took care of Doug Hirsch (6-9, 9-3, 9-0, 9-1).

It was much of the same in Saturday's night cap against Vassar for the men's team, as this time Stiegel, Montesano, Buxbaum, Monhait and Tom Kinrade each won 3-0 at numbers three, four, six, eight, and ten (exhibition match), respectively. Shah bested Toby Fox, 3-1 (9-0, 9-3, 6-9, 10-8) at number seven, and Tom Somerville also won, 3-1, at number nine (5-9, 9-6, 10-8, 10-9).

The men's squash team took its fifth straight on Sunday, improving its record to 6-2 overall, as junior Jason Bazarsky, Stiegel, Koprowski, Khan, Buxbaum and Shah all won easily.

On the women's side, seniors Vanessa Sergeon, co-captain Charlotte Koeniger, Allyson Scherb, and Margot Elton were all victorious at numbers one, two, six, and eight, respectively. Juniors Devon Hercher, Betsy Schmidt, and Emma Bartlett were all winners at numbers three, four, and seven, while sophomore Jenny Millman took home a win at number five. Freshman Karen Lavi was credited with a win by forfeit at number nine to round out the perfect, 9-0, team victory.

The men's squash team will host Rutgers on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while the women's squash team (1-3) will next participate at the Seven Sisters tournament, hosted by Vassar on January 20th and 21st.
