Women's Squash Competes at Howe Cup;
Men's Squash Falls to Franklin & Marshall
The Haverford women's squash team traveled
to New Haven, Connecticut and went 1-2 in three matches last weekend
at the Howe Cup, hosted by Yale. The men's squash team traveled
to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and came up on the losing side of a
9-0 decision to Franklin & Marshall. The women's team currently
stands at 4-10 overall on the season while the men fell to 9-4
with Saturday's loss.
The women's team competed in the Epps Division and opened the
weekend on Friday with a narrow 5-4 loss against Smith. Junior
Betsy Schmidt, senior Margot Elton, freshman Karen Lavi and sophomore
Monique Wong all picked up victories in the loss to Smith. The
season series between Smith and Haverford now stands at 1-1. Haverford
had bested Smith 6-3 back on January 21 at the Seven Sisters tournament.
Haverford bounced back on Saturday and swept Northeastern, 9-0.
The Fords win over Northeastern is their second one of the season.
The first win of the year was an 8-1 win on January 27. Haverford
fell to Colgate 8-1 on Sunday to close out the weekend. Senior
Charlotte Koeniger was the lone Ford to go undefeated on the weekend,
compiling a 2-0 record with individual wins over Northeastern
and Colgate. The women's team will next compete at the CSA Individual
Championships on March 2-4 at Penn.
The men's team put up a strong fight against the 14th-ranked Diplomats
on Sunday, but lost 9-0. Senior Mike Montesano and sophomore Karan
Shah had close games in each of their matches that could have
gone either way, but neither could top the tough F&M competition.
The Haverford men will compete at the CSA Team Championships this
weekend at Yale. Women's Box Score vs. Smith
