#16 Johns Hopkins Blanks Haverford, 3-0

HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford College (1-3-1, 0-1) dropped its 2006 Centennial Conference opener to 16th ranked Johns Hopkins (4-1, 1-0), 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.

The game remained scoreless until the 30th minute when Blue Jays midfielder Lisa Irrizary and Fords goalkeeper Lindsay Festa both went for a loose ball at the top of the Haverford box. The ball made contact with both players, however, the ball went towards the Haverford net. Irrizary ran around Festa and kicked the ball into a wide open Haverford net, giving the Hopkins a 1-0 advantage. Hopkins midfielder Molly Steele recorded a goal on a header, off a corner kick from teammate Jessie McKenzie to give Hopkins a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute. Midfielder Kaitlin Giannetti put the game out of the Fords reach in the 76th minute, registering the Blue Jays third goal.

Hopkins held the advantage in shots (25-9) and in corner kicks (15-0) in the contest. Festa made 11 saves in the loss for Haverford, while Hopkins goalkeeper Kerry Hamilton made eight saves for the win.

The Fords will return to action Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. when they will play at non-conference opponent Eastern.
