HAVERFORD, PA - Host Haverford College took
a 1-0 lead into the second half, however visiting Gettysburg College
rallied with two goals in the second period to take a key Centennial
Conference game, 2-1, from Haverford Saturday afternoon at Walton
Field. Gettysburg improved to 11-4-1 overall and 7-2 in Centennial
play with the win, while the Fords slipped to 5-8-2 and 4-4.
The Fords opened the scoring in the 26th minute when junior forward
Ryan Hedrick scored her team-high fourth goal of the season off
a pass from sophomore midfielder Allison O'Donnell. The score
remained at 1-0 into the halftime break. Gettysburg came out of
halftime putting consistent pressure on the Haverford defense.
The Bullets broke through to tie the game at one a piece in the
64th minute as Steph Heath gathered a rebound from a blocked shot
by Leslie Hynes, kicking it past Haverford goalkeeper Lindsay
Festa. The Bullets Laurie Goon scored the game-winning goal just
5:36 later off a free kick pass towards the net from Heath.
Festa made nine saves in the loss for Haverford, while Danielle
St. Pierre made three saves, leading Gettysburg to the win.
Gettysburg held a 21-7 advantage in shots, and a 3-2 edge in corner
kicks. Each team was called offsides once in the contest.
Haverford currently stands just three points outside of a Centennial
Conference playoff spot with two games to go. The Fords will battle
with Ursinus, who is three points ahead of Haverford in the standings,
on Wednesday in their final home game of the season at 3:30 p.m.
