Women's Soccer Defeats Arcadia, 3-0
HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College women's
soccer team defeated visiting Arcadia, 3-0, Saturday afternoon
in the first game of the 2006 Haverford College Women's Soccer
Kick-Off Tournament. Juniors Ryan Hedrick
and Katie Garrett, along with freshman Erin Dowling each recorded
a goal for the Fords in the victory.
The rain-soaked contest stayed scoreless until
the 30th minute when Garrett took a pass from Hedrick and shot
the ball off the fingertips of the Arcadia goalie, and into the
top right corner of the net.
Haverford then jumped on the Knights right
off the bat in the second half. In the 48th minute, Hedrick connected
off a cross from sophomore defender Southey Saul to give the Fords
a 2-0 advantage. Dowling notched her first career collegiate goal,
and gave the Fords a 3-0 lead in the 79th minute off a cross from
sophomore forward Annie Turner.
Haverford out shot Arcadia 13-6. Lindsay Festa
made five saves in net for the Fords, earning her first shutout
of the season. Haverford also held a six-to-three advantage in
corner kicks.
Auralia Kubat made four saves for Arcadia
in the losing effort.
Haverford will play Lynchburg Sunday at 1:00
p.m. in the championship contest of the 2006 Haverford Kick-Off
Tournament.
