Fords, Bears Play 1-1 Stalemate
HAVERFORD, PA - Host Haverford College (1-6-1 overall,
0-2-1 Centennial) and visiting Ursinus College (0-6-2, 0-2-1)
played to a 1-1 double overtime tie in a Centennial Conference
men's soccer game this afternoon at Walton Field. Sophomore midfielder
Eric Kissinger scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season
for Haverford.
After a scoreless first half, Kissinger took a pass in the box
from senior defender Brian Doherty and drilled the ball into the
top left corner of the net to give the Fords the 1-0 advantage
in the 57th minute. The lead wouldn't last long, as Ursinus would
tie the game in the 64th minute. Bears midfielder Ten Hooven saved
a loose ball from going out of bounds on the left side of the
Haverford net. Hooven then floated a pass into the box that found
John George, who kicked the ball into the back of the net to knot
the game at one. Both Haverford and Ursinus had chances throughout
the remainder of regulation and both overtimes to score the go-ahead
goal, but neither team could finish.
Haverford held a 24-19 advantage in shots, while
Ursinus had a 10-5 edge in corner kicks. Haverford goalkeeper
Jim Wiltsee started the game, and played both overtime periods,
while Adam Care played the second half between the pipes. They
combined for seven saves in the game, while Ursinus goalie Ed
de Gottal recorded 12 saves.
Haverford will host Centennial foe Washington College
on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
