HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College men's soccer team recorded
its first win of the 2006 season with a, 4-1, victory over visiting
non-conference opponent Moravian Thursday afternoon at Walton
Field. Seven different players registered one point in the winning
effort for Haverford.
Sophomore midfielder Eric Kissinger scored the first goal of the
game in the 17th minute off a cross pass from freshman defender
Brian Pepe-Mooney to give Haverford a 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder
Panos Panidis slipped a shot past the Moravian goalkeeper in the
38th minute to give Haverford a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Greyhounds pulled within one goal when Ryan
Hess scored on a penalty kick, however, freshman midfielder Chris
Dioguardi netted a rebound off a shot by teammate Matt Eppright
to give the Fords a 3-1 lead. Freshman forward Indong Sul gave
Haverford another insurance goal in the 76th minute after a saved
penalty kick off the foot of sophomore midfielder Alex Simmons.
The Fords outshot the Greyhounds, 20-16, but Moravian
held a 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Jim Wiltsee made
four saves in 63 minutes of play to pick up his first victory
of the season. Sophomore Adam Care also made three saves in 27
minutes of action.
The 4-1 victory this afternoon is the first time
Haverford has defeated an opponent by at least three goals since
Haverford defeated Delaware Valley 4-0 on September 10, 2005.
Haverford returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m.
at home against Wabash in the opening game of the 2006 Jimmy Mills
Tournament.
