McDaniel Edges Haverford, 2-1, in 2OT

WESTMINSTER, MD - Haverford sophomore midfielder Austin Reed scored his second goal of the season in the 77th minute, but it was not enough has host McDaniel edged past visiting Haverford, 2-1, in double overtime Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's soccer action.

McDaniel opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Peter Gaitens shot in a cross pass off the foot of Adam Sommers. The score remained 1-0 until the 76th minute, when Sophomore midfielder Eric Kissinger found Reed, who put the ball into the back to the net to knot the game at one a piece.

In the 107th minute, McDaniel was breaking towards the Haverford net when the ball handler was fouled just outside the box. A red card was given to the Haverford player, in addition to the foul. McDaniel's Will Talesnick then rocketed a shot off the restart, past the Haverford goalkeeper, for the game-winning goal.

Haverford sophomore goalkeeper Adam Care made ten saves in the loss, while McDaniel goalie Christian Maisel made six saves in the win.

McDaniel out shot Haverford by a 23-9 margin, and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

McDaniel improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in Centennial Conference play with the win, while Haverford falls to 2-9-1 and 1-4-1.

The Fords will play their next two games in the state of Georgia, opening up against NAIA opponent Shorter College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
