McDaniel Edges Haverford, 2-1, in 2OT
WESTMINSTER, MD - Haverford sophomore midfielder Austin Reed scored
his second goal of the season in the 77th minute, but it was not
enough has host McDaniel edged past visiting Haverford, 2-1, in
double overtime Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's
soccer action.
McDaniel opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Peter Gaitens
shot in a cross pass off the foot of Adam Sommers. The score remained
1-0 until the 76th minute, when Sophomore midfielder Eric Kissinger
found Reed, who put the ball into the back to the net to knot
the game at one a piece.
In the 107th minute, McDaniel was breaking towards the Haverford
net when the ball handler was fouled just outside the box. A red
card was given to the Haverford player, in addition to the foul.
McDaniel's Will Talesnick then rocketed a shot off the restart,
past the Haverford goalkeeper, for the game-winning goal.
Haverford sophomore goalkeeper Adam Care made ten saves in the
loss, while McDaniel goalie Christian Maisel made six saves in
the win.
McDaniel out shot Haverford by a 23-9 margin, and held an 11-0
advantage in corner kicks.
McDaniel improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in Centennial Conference
play with the win, while Haverford falls to 2-9-1 and 1-4-1.
The Fords will play their next two games in the state of Georgia,
opening up against NAIA opponent Shorter College on Saturday at
7:00 p.m.
