#13 Johns Hopkins Holds Off Haverford, 1-0
HAVERFORD, PA - Host Haverford College gave it all they had but
came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision against Centennial
Conference opponent Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon at Walton
Field. The Blue Jays, ranked 13th in the country in Division III,
improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the
Fords fell to 2-8-1 and 1-3-1.
Hopkins opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Ryan Aronberg
found Nicholas Gauna open at the top of the Haverford box. Gauna
rocketed a shot into the bottom left corner of the net, past diving
sophomore Haverford goalkeeper Jim Wiltsee. The Fords played great
defense to hold the Blue Jays lead at 1-0 throughout the rest
of regulation. Haverford also had a few good chances to knot the
game at one a piece, including an opportunity by freshman Chris
Dioguardi in the 78th minute, which was knocked away by Hopkins
goalkeeper Danny Koble.
Wiltsee made 12 saves in net for Haverford in the loss. Coble
made four saves in the win for Hopkins.
Haverford will return to action on Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. game
against Centennial foe McDaniel.
