HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College men's soccer team hung tough
with visiting non-conference opponent Gwynedd-Mercy for 89:57,
but were defeated, 1-0. Gwynedd-Mercy's Dennis Helverson scored
off a free kick from Walt Mikolajewski with three seconds remaining
in regulation. With the win, the Griffins improved to 3-6-1, while
the Fords dropped to 2-7-1.
Haverford had its chances to score throughout the contest, out
shooting Gwynedd-Mercy, 20-10. Griffins goalkeeper Dan Ballard
recorded seven saves to earn the shut out victory, while Adam
Care made one save in the loss for the Fords.
Haverford also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Fords return to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game
against Centennial opponent Johns Hopkins.
