Crusaders Blank Fords, 1-0


HAVERFORD, PA – Haverford College lost to visiting non-conference opponent Alvernia, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Walton Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 4-1-1 overall while the Fords fall to 1-5.

Alvernia scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute. Crusader defender Greg Allegra and midfielder Zach Naylon took advantage of a two-on-one breakaway in the box. Allegra fed the ball to Naylon who proceeded to shoot it past diving Haverford goalkeeper Jim Wiltsee.

The Crusaders out shot the Fords by a margin of 21-10. Alvernia put constant pressure on the Haverford defense throughout the game, holding a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

Haverford sophomore midfielder's Eric Kissinger and Panos Panidis each had three shots in the losing effort.

The Fords return to action on Friday when they travel to Centennial Conference opponent Franklin & Marshall for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
