Season Outlook

The 2008 Haverford women’s lacrosse team will return a group of talented young players who will bring a competitive game to Centennial Conference and non-conference opponents alike.

Having only graduated four seniors last season, head coach MaryAnn Foley Schiller’s squad will return a class of seven juniors, two sophomores, one senior and a group of upstart freshmen. Juniors Lauren Finkel, Elizabeth Koelmel and Emily Burhart will lead the 2008 team as captains.

Finkel returns as the team’s leading scorer, having scored 41 goals while assisting on 13 others for 54 points. Finkel’s 2.56 goals and 3.38 points per game placed her second and fifth, respectively, among all players in the Centennial in 2007, respectively. Koelmel was the Fords third-leading scorer in 2007 with 24 goals and nine assists for 33 points, while Burkhart provided strong defense causing 21 turnovers and gobbling up 19 ground balls in 2007.

Also returning for the Fords this season is junior Casey Sanborn, who was second on the squad last season with 39 draw controls, 33 goals and ten assists for 43 points. Sophomore goalkeeper Siobhan Neitzel will look to improve on a solid rookie campaign after finishing fourth in the Centennial with 8.94 saves per game in 2007. Coach Schiller will also return rising juniors Maggie Matthews and Sarah Graves, both of whom will provide support in the midfield and defensive positions.
