Named Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference
Senior Alex Shookhoff has been
named Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference by a vote
of the league's head coaches.
Shookhoff, a native of New York,
N.Y., anchored the Fords' defense and scored three goals,
recorded an assist and picked up 40 ground balls on the
year.
Fords Beat Bryn Mawr, 13-12, in Overtime
Senior Merri Wen scored four
goals and her classmates Tripti Tewari and Meg Twomey added
two each as Haverford downed Main Line neighbor Bryn Mawr
in Centennial Conference action Wednesday.
Casey Sanborn scored 11 seconds
into the game on the opening draw control, and she joined
Liz Koelmel, Zoe Lloyd and Katie Meyers with one goal and
one assist apiece for the Fords (7-8, 1-7). Sharon O'Neill
had her lone goal in the first half to end a four-goal run
by the hosts.
Haverford trailed, 10-9, before
Twomey and Wen, assisted by Meyers, scored at 3:36 and 1:09
left in regulation, respectively. Greta Flaherty's seventh
goal for Bryn Mawr in the final minute of regulation knotted
the score at 11 entering overtime, but Lloyd's free position
goal, and Twomey's score assisted by Koelmel, put the lead
out of reach three minutes into the extra period.
Alex Byers made 13 total saves
in goal for the Owls (5-12, 0-8), while Fords frosh Chelsea
Meerbach made two of her nine saves in the six-minute overtime.
Meyers Scores Four Goals as Fords Beat Rosemont, 17-7
Senior Katie Meyers recorded
four goals and two assists, and frosh Casey Sanborn (assist)
and seniors Meg Twomey (assist) and Meredith Wen each added
three goals for host Haverford, which recovered from an
early 2-1 deficit for a 12-4 halftime lead.
Elizabeth Koelmel had a team-high
three assists and Emily Horn scored two goals for the Fords
(6-2), who also got one goal apiece from Penn Wood product
Tripti Tewari (assist) and Lauren Finkel.
Haverford goalkeeper Chelsea
Meerbach made all five of her saves in the second half,
while Rosemont's Madeline Kropp made 10 of her 15 saves
after halftime.
The Ramblers (1-6) were led
by Cecilia Saunders six goals, plus a goal from Kaitlin
Hans and an assist from Megan Torbik.

ST. DAVIDS -- Haverford senior attack
Meg Twomey scored five goals in her final collegiate game, but
the visiting Fords (7-10) couldn't overcome an 11-4 halftime deficit
in their non-conference season finale Monday.
Frosh Lauren Finkel (2-1) and Liz Koelmel
(1-2) and junior Sarah Steenbergen (1-1) all registered points
in both the goals and assists categories. Junior Katie Meyers
assisted Twomey's third goal, which cut the hosts' early lead
to 6-3. Eastern's Kate Hoy then scored two of her team-high four
goals among five in five minutes that boosted the Eagles (10-5)
to their largest lead in the game.
Frosh goalkeeper Chelsea Meerbach made
15 saves for the Fords, who also got team-highs from seniors Alex
Shookhoff (six ground balls) and Katrina Morgan (four caused turnovers).

HAVERFORD -- Jennie Howell scored five
goals and Jenn Kelly added a goal and five assists, as Gettysburg
-- which moved into the top spot in the IWLCA Division III national
coaches' poll for the first time ever this week -- defeated Centennial
Conference host Haverford on Senior Day at rainy Class of 1888
Field.
Fords senior Meg Twomey scored her
second goal of the game between two by frosh Sarah Graves (nine
ground balls), all within 3:16 of the second half. Frosh Liz Koelmel
had the opening goal to go before Twomey's first-half score, which
came on the first career assist by senior midfielder Elizabeth
Caris.
Chelsea Meerbach made 10 saves in net
for the Fords (7-9, 1-7), while Bullets (15-0, 9-0) keeper Heather
Kelley made nine stops.

HAVERFORD -- Visiting Swarthmore jumped
out to a 6-1 first-half lead, then held on with strong goalkeeping
from Susannah Blair (14 of 20 saves in second half), as the Garnet
(13-3, 5-3) captured the first Hood Trophy point of the spring
season Tuesday.
Zoe Lloyd had the only goal for Haverford
(6-8, 0-7) in the opening 25 minutes, and Sharon O'Neill added
another score before halftime. Merri Wen opened the second half
with a goal to cut the Swarthmore lead to 7-3, and Meg Twomey
(assist Katie Meyers), Tripti Tewari and Liz Koelmel each score
a goal over the final 13:16 to account for the final margin.
4/15/06 McDaniel 20, Haverford 8
WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Haverford held
a one-goal advantage with 11:27 left in the first half, but host
McDaniel poured on seven goals before the halftime break, and
an additional pair on the other side of it to blow the game open.
The Fords' Casey Sanborn tallied a
hat trick, with Liz Koelmel, Meredith Wen, Meg Twomey, Sharon
O'Neill and Sarah Steenbergen scoring one goal each. Twomey's
goal, which gave Haverford (6-7, 0-5) its last lead at 5-4, was
assisted by Tripti Tewari.
Haverford goalie Chelsea Meerbach faced
49 McDaniel shots and turned away nine.
Green Terror (6-7, 4-3) keeper Sarah
White was nowhere near as busy at the other end, needing only
five stops to move her to 4-4 on the year.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Frosh Liz Koelmel
had three first-half goals and an assist, and Sharon O'Neill,
Tripti Tewari, Katie Meyers, Casey Sanborn and Emily Horn had
one goal apiece for the Fords (6-6, 0-5).
The host Shorewomen (7-8, 2-5), who
jumped out to a 9-4 halftime lead, got three goals each from Suzie
Jakub and Lauren Sampson.
Sarah Graves assisted Koelmel's final
tally, and Chelsea Meerbach made 13 saves in net for the visitors.

HAVERFORD -- Courtney Tapkas scored
seven goals and Ruth Morrongiello added four goals and an assist
to lead visiting Muhlenberg to a Centennial Conference win at
Haverford Saturday.
Liz Koelmel scored four goals, and
Sarah Graves, Alex Shookhoff, Tripti Tewari (assist) and Merri
Wen had one apiece for the Fords (6-5, 0-4), who got 15 saves
from Chelsea Meerbach.
Caroline Shadood made nine saves in
goal for the Mules (8-3, 3-3), who never trailed after pulling
away from a 2-2 game with three straight goals.
4/6/06 #17 Ursinus 11, Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. Debbie Jensen
netted a hat trick and Erikah Weir scored the go-ahead goal with
9:09 remaining to lift 17th-ranked Ursinus past Haverford in Centennial
Conference action Thursday.
Frosh Casey Sanborn (three goals) and
Liz Koelmel (goal, assist) buoyed the chances for Haverford (6-4,
0-3), and their classmate Chelsea Meerbach made 18 saves while
facing 35 Ursinus (7-3, 3-1) shots.
Following goals by Meredith Wen (two
goals) and Katie Meyers to get the Fords within 7-6, Ursinus answered
with four goals in the game’s final nine minutes to seal
the victory.
Seven seconds after the Bears went
up, 10-6, Sanborn completed her hat trick by winning the draw
control and putting away her shot to make it a 10-7 game. Ursinus
added an insurance goal in the closing seconds for the final margin.

CARLISLE -- Tripti Tewari, Elizabeth
Koelmel and Casey Sanborn (assist) scored two goals apiece, and
Lauren Finkel added the remaining tally, but Haverford could not
keep pace with 14th-ranked Dickinson Saturday.
The Red Devils (9-0, 3-0) used a 10-1
run around halftime to break the game open.
Chelsea Meerbach made 23 saves in net for the young Fords (6-3,
0-2), who trailed by only 5-4 after Tewari's back-to-back goals
late in the first half.

HAVERFORD -- Senior Katie Meyers recorded
four goals and two assists, and frosh Casey Sanborn (assist) and
seniors Meg Twomey (assist) and Meredith Wen each added three

HAVERFORD -- Frosh Casey Sanborn scored
three goals and frosh Elizabeth Koelmel and seniors Meredith Wen
and Tripti Tewari scored one each, but host Haverford was foiled
in its Centennial Conference home opener Saturday.
The Diplomats (4-0, 1-0) got three
goals by Kiki Foster to race out to an 11-4 lead at halftime,
after which Sloan Giompa scored three of her four goals in the
game to blow it open.
Goalies Kamissa Mort of F&M and
Chelsea Meerbach of Haverford (5-2, 0-1) made four and eight saves
in net, respectively.
3/23/06 Haverford 16, Immaculata

HAVERFORD -- Senior Katie Meyers scored
28 seconds into the game, then twice in the final 25 seconds of
the first half, to lead host Haverford to a non-conference, Division
III win over visiting Immaculata Thursday.
Frosh Liz Koelmel (assist) scored two
of her three goals in the game in the first half as the Fords
(5-1) jumped out to an 11-4 lead at intermission. Haverford's
Meredith Wen (two goals, three assists), Casey Sanborn (two goals,
two assists), Tripti Tewari (two goals, assist) and Lauren Finkel
(goal, assist) all got points in both offensive categories.
Sarah Graves, Sharon O'Neill and Sarah
Steenbergen each scored one goal, and Zoe Lloyd had the Fords'
other assist. Frosh Chelsea Meerbach made 11 saves in goal.
The Mighty Macs (0-4) got four goals
from Jess Hanna, plus a goal and an assist from Claire Lichty.
Tori Robson scored the first goal for Immaculata, which also got
14 saves from keeper Alexis Erazo.

SWARTHMORE -- Mount Holyoke sophomore
attack Danielle Babcock tied Sunday's third-place game at 12-all
with eight seconds to play, but Haverford freshman Liz Koelmel
put home her second goal of the game for the win with 1:42 remaining
in overtime.
The Blue (1-2) jumped out to a 6-3
lead before the Fords (4-1) scored the final three goals of the
first half to tie the match at the break. In a battle of senior
standouts, Haverford attack Meg Twomey (four goals) kept her team
in the match, scoring her team's first three goals, while Mount
Holyoke's Caitlin Taylor (five goals, 11 in tournament) netted
three of her own.
Haverford took two-goal leads twice
with under 20 minutes to play, but both times the Blue responded
and tied the game. Both goalies made a number of key saves during
the second half. Freshman Chelsea Meerbach saved 13 for the Fords,
while senior Lauren Mulcahy stopped 12 for the Blue.
Junior Tripti Tewari and Casey Sanborn
(two assists) scored three and two goals, respectively, and Meredith
Wen, Sarah Graves and Zoe Lloyd added one apiece for the Fords.
Sanborn tied Sarah Steenbergen for the team-high with two assists,
with another one from Alex Shookhoff. Defensive blocks were recorded
by Katrina Morgan (two) and Lloyd, and interceptions taken by
Koelmel and Shookhoff.

SWARTHMORE -- In the opening win over
Smith, senior Meg Twomey led a balanced Haverford attack with
four goals, while eight other Fords found the back of the net
at least once.
Haverford scored the first four goals
and led, 10-2, late in the first half, then 18-6 with just over
10 minutes to play. The Pioneers (0-1), who scored the game's
last seven goals, got eight scores from sophomore attack Sara
Smyth.
Chelsea Meerback made seven saves for
the Fords, keeper Sara Smith made six for the Pioneers.
In the semifinal loss to Swarthmore,
Garnet junior Lindsay Roth led the hosts' offense, picking up
a first-half hat trick, as the Garnet built an 8-0 halftime lead,
which grew to 12-0 lead before Tripti Tewari got the Fords (3-1)
on the board with 19:10 to play, ending Swat goalkeeper Susannah
Blair's 100:50 scoreless streak in the 2006 tournament.
Haverford would go to score five consecutive
goals, including two from freshman Liz Koelmel, before Swarthmore
senior Niamh Shortt closed out the scoring.
3/14/06 Haverford 17, Nihon University
(Japan) 2 (exhibition)
HAVERFORD -- Elizabeth Koelmel had
five goals and an assist, and Sarah Steenbergen added four goals,
as unbeaten Haverford won big in its exhibition home opener Tuesday.
Meredith Wen and Casey Sanborn scored
two goals each, and Katie Meyers (three assists), Zoe Lloyd (assist),
Meg Twomey and Sharon O'Neill added one apiece for the Fords.
Chelsea Meerbach made seven of her
eight saves in the second half and allowed one goal each by Yumi
Narimatsu and Chisa Yoshimura. The latter score was assisted by
Hiroko Matsuda from behind the net.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Meg Twomey
scored four goals and Liz Koelmel added three goals and three
assists as Haverford improved to 2-0 with its Spring Break win
over the Griffins.
Meredith Wen and Casey Sanborn (assist)
each scored two goals and Tripti Tewari had two assists for the
Fords.
Chelsea Meerbach made six saves in
net for her second career victory in goal.
