Semifinals
Gettysburg 12, Haverford 7
Washington (Md.) 9, Dickinson 5
GETTYSBURG -- Top-seeded Gettysburg
used a 5-1 scoring margin in the third-quarter, broken only by
Joe Mauri's score on a pass from Haverford long-stick Steve Selsor,
to build a 9-3 lead en route to its Centennial semifinal win Friday.
The fourth-seeded Fords (10-6), who
were making their first postseason appearance ever, struck first
on a Mike Distler goal from the left side. After the Bullets (15-1,
ranked #2 in Division III) went up, 2-1, Haverford's Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald
tied the score late in the first quarter on a run through the
defense.
Gettysburg got all of its first half
offense thanks to Brian Pryor, who fed both of his team's first-quarter
goals, then scored his second goal of the half with 4.5 seconds
left. Pryor also scored the first Gettysburg goal after halftime
to spark his team's surge to victory.
In the fourth quarter, Dean Granoff
scored twice on the heels of a Ben Reed goal to bring the Fords
within a 10-6 count, but they could get no closer despite Mauri's
second tally with 2:38 left.
Haverford goalkeeper K.C. Peterson
made seven of his 12 saves in the second half. Gettysburg's Pat
Vaughan made five of his eight in the fourth quarter, when the
Fords got 13 of their 23 shots in the game.
4/29/06 Haverford 10, Swarthmore
7
HAVERFORD -- Senior attackman Joe Mauri
scored his team's first three and last two goals of the game,
as Centennial Conference playoff-bound Haverford surged to its
school-record 10th win of the season Saturday at traditional rival
Swarthmore.
Four of Dean Granoff's five assists
on the day came on Mauri's goals, including a pair that evened
the score after the host Garnet (4-10, 1-7) jumped out, 3-1, on
goals by Ivano Ventresca, Todd Friedman and Matthew Perez in the
first 11 minutes. Adam Goldstein's first goal of the year on a
Mike Distler assist, and Distler's goal on a Jeremy Golan feed,
put the Fords (10-5, 6-2) ahead, 5-3, after which they never trailed.
In the second half, Granoff scored
twice unassisted and picked up his final assist on a Distler goal,
while Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald fed Mauri's fourth tally. The hosts,
who got a Gavin Nurick goal 28 seconds before halftime, also got
scoring from Ryan McKenna, Adam Miller and Friedman (two assists)
in the final 30 minutes.
Haverford goalkeeper K.C. Peterson
made 12 of his 18 total saves in the second half to stymie Swarthmore,
which held a 39-21 advantage in shots taken. Frank Mazzucco made
five saves for the host Garnet.

both of his goals in the fourth quarter as Haverford, ranked 19th
in this week's USILA Division III coaches' poll, nearly erased
a six-goal deficit in the final 21 minutes against third-ranked
Gettysburg Saturday evening.
With under six minutes remaining in
the third quarter, Gettysburg (12-1, 6-0 Centennial Conference)
enjoyed a 7-1 lead on goals by five different Bullets between
a pair by Brian Pryor. Seniors Joe Mauri and Ben Reed (two assists)
then scored goals 37 seconds apart to spark a 6-1 Haverford (9-5,
5-2) run in the remainder of regulation time. Tcheyan's fourth-quarter
scores were supplemented by one each by sophomores Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald
and Mike Distler, the latter coming with 1:15 left on Dean Granoff's
second assist of the game.
Haverford junior goalkeeper K.C. Peterson
returned to form following Wednesday's loss to 10th-ranked Washington,
making 17 saves, as compared to five by Gettysburg's Pat Vaughan.

4
HAVERFORD -- Mike Distler netted three
goals, and Max Tcheyan (assist) and Ben Reed added two each, as
Haverford tied its school-record for wins in a season with its
8-4 Centennial Conference victory over Ursinus Wednesday.
The Fords (9-3, 5-0), who remain atop
the Centennial Conference standings and are included in the USILA
Division III Top 20 for the first time ever this week, previously
won nine games in the 1993 and 2005 seasons.
Dean Granoff fed one goal each by Reed
and Tcheyan, and Joe Mauri provided the feed on Distler's score
in between, during a four-goal outburst in the first six minutes
of the second quarter. Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald scored an unassisted
goal to give the hosts an 8-2 lead after 45 minutes.

4/8/06 Haverford 10, #8 Dickinson
9 (2OT)
CARLISLE -- Senior midfielder Ben Reed
scored his team's final goal in regulation by shooting backwards
over his head from a seated position, then notched the game-winner
47 seconds into the second overtime period, as Haverford stunned
host Dickinson, ranked eighth in this week's USILA Division III
poll.
The win keeps Haverford (8-3, 4-0),
which was under consideration for last week's national Top 20,
a game ahead of second-ranked Gettysburg (8-1, 3-0) for the top
spot in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils (7-2, 2-1) are
the highest-ranked opponent ever defeated by head coach Mike Murphy's
team, surpassing Top 10 wins over #10 Franklin & Marshall
(2004) and #9 Hampden-Sydney (2005), respectively.
Reed's more conventional final tally
was the only man-up goal of the game, a statistical dead-heat
that was tied following every quarter except the third. Reed took
all three Haverford shots in the second extra four-minute period,
including two during a one-minute tripping penalty on Dickinson.
Red Devils goalkeeper Kevin Riley (eight saves) made his only
overtime save on Reed's first extra-man-on attempt, but Reed converted
a feed from sophomore midfielder Dean Granoff with 11 seconds
left in the penalty for the win.
Junior goalie K.C. Peterson (12 saves)
kept the guests in contention with four fourth-quarter saves and
two in the first overtime. Senior Joe Mauri had provided three
goals and an assist to help Haverford open a 7-5 lead after 45
minutes, along with two goals each from sophs Granoff and Mike
Distler. The Devils' Ed Boyd (four goals, assist) then scored
consecutive goals and answered a Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald marker
to tie the game at 8-8. After Reed's highlight-reel goal in regulation,

an Ed Lawless pass with 3:01 left to send the game into overtime.

start the Fords' rally and added a man-down score on a long assist

the Centennial Conference with their win over the Diplomats (5-3,
1-1) Saturday.
Tcheyan scored the Fords' first goal
of the second half, then assisted Joe Mauri's score three minutes
later, to push the Haverford lead to 8-4 after F&M had cut
a 6-1 halftime deficit 6-3. Mark Hild scored the first and last
goals of a 4-0 Diplomat run that put the Fords' game-long lead
in jeopardy at 8-7, but Tcheyan converted a pass by Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald
with 6:06 to provide the final cushion.

in the opening minutes, both on Mauri assists, then Dean Granoff
fed Mike Distler and Reed for goals and scored himself on a Tcheyan
assist to build the Fords' opening 5-1 lead. K.C. Peterson made

defense allowed just one extra-man goal on seven second-half penalties.

between the Centennial Conference rivals after 45 minutes of play.
