#16 Haverford Rallies Past Muhlenberg, 7-5
ALLENTOWN, PA - Down 3-1 after the first quarter, visiting Haverford
out scored host Muhlenberg 2-0 in the second quarter and 4-2 in
the second half en route to a 7-5 victory in Centennial Conference
men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening. Haverford senior attack
Max Tcheyan scored three goals to pace the Fords offense in the
win. Haverford improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Centennial play
with the win while Muhlenberg falls to 4-3 and 0-3.
Junior attack Mike Distler scored the first goal of the game 1:35
into the game to give Haverford an early 1-0 advantage. Muhlenberg
answered with three straight goal to close out the first quarter
with a 3-1 lead. Tcheyan closed the Haverford deficit to 3-2 57
seconds into the second quarter. Freshman attack Brian Fleishhacker
tied the game at three off a pass from junior midfielder Matt
Thorne-Fitzgerald.
The contest remained tied at three a piece until Fleishhacker
gave Haverford a 4-3 edge edge 41 seconds into the third quarter.
Tcheyan followed 2:54 later with a goal off Thorne-Fitzgerald's
second assist of the game to make the score 5-3. The Mules rallied
to tie the game up at five all with a score late in the third
quarter and early in the fourth. Tcheyan's third goal of the game
came with 11:35 remaining in the game off a pass from sophomore
midfielder Peter Hannapel. Junior midfielder Dean Granoff gave
the Fords a little more breathing room with a goal assisted by
freshman attack Alex Guy with 9:17 left in the game. Haverford's
defense combined with senior goalkeeper K.C. Peterson's three
fourth quarter saves kept the game at 7-5 the rest of the way.
Muhlenberg out shot Haverford 28-18 in the game, but the Fords
won nine of 15 face offs. Haverford was successful on 13-of-17
clears while Muhlenberg was 14-of-21 on clear attempts. The Mules
went 3-for-7 on man up opportunities while the Fords were 1-for-3.
Tonight's game was the third straight contest Haverford has come
from two goals down in the first quarter to win the game.
Haverford returns to action on Saturday night with a 7:00 p.m.
