WESTMINSTER, MD - Host McDaniel scored four unanswered fourth
quarter goals to rally past Haverford, 11-9, Saturday afternoon
in a Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game. The Green Terror
improve to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in Centennial play, despite losing
19-of-24 face offs and being out shot by a 36-26 margin. Haverford
falls to 7-5 and 4-3 with the loss.
The Green Terror raced out to a 2-0 lead, but senior attack Max
Tcheyan pulled Haverford to within 2-1 on a goal assisted by freshman
midfielder Andrew Kim. McDaniel added another score to end the
first quarter with a 3-1 advantage. Haverford and McDaniel each
tallied four goals in the second quarter, as junior midfielder's
Dean Granoff and Shane Hafer in addition to two more goals by
Tcheyan scored for Haverford in the quarter, making the contest
7-5 in the Green Terror's favor at the half.
Haverford's defense came alive in the third quarter, allowing
no goals as the offense provided four scores to give Haverford
a 9-7 lead after three quarters. Junior midfielder Matt Thorne-Fitzgerals,
Granoff and Hafer each had goals in the third quarter, while senior
midfielder Adam Goldstein scored his second goal of the season.
The Green Terror rallied in the fourth quarter with four goals,
two by Jared Nutter, while holding Haverford to no goals in the
period en route to the 11-9 win. McDaniel goalie Benjamin Yingling
made four of his 16 saves in the game in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore midfielder Peter Hannapel won 16-of-19 face offs in
the game, as Haverford went on to win 19-of-24 total face offs.
Freshman attack Alex Guy also had an assist in Haverford's losing
effort.
Nutter and Matt Buschman combined for seven of McDaniel's 11 goals
in the game.
Haverford will play its final regular season game of the season
next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against rival Swarthmore.
