Fords Foil Shorewomen, 3-2; Earn First Centennial Victory

Quinn earned her first Centennial Conference coaching victory
Wednesday afternoon, as host Haverford College defeated visiting
Washington College, 3-2. With the win, the Fords improved to 4-6
overall and 1-4 in Centennial play, while the Shorewomen fell
to 0-9 and 0-4.
Haverford junior attack Colleen Farrell opened the scoring only
5:50 into the game. Farrell had a break towards the net and fired
it into the bottom left corner of the cage, past Washington goalkeeper
Elena Nicholoff. Senior attack Jen Chu gave the Fords a 2-0 lead
on a penalty stroke 19:11 into the half.
Washington would cut the Haverford lead to 2-1 4:10 into the second
half, when Rachel Miller would score the first of her two goals
on the day. However, sophomore attack Zoe Lloyd would get net
the game-winning goal less than four minutes later after taking
a Farrell shot, which hit the right post of the cage, and shooting
it into an open cage. Miller would score her second goal of the
game with 1:03 left in the game, however, the Fords held off Washington
over the final 63 seconds for the win.
Haverford sophomore goalie Sarah Graves recorded her first collegiate
victory in the cage, making four saves in the win. Nicholoff made
11 saves for Washington in the losing effort.
The Fords out shot the Shorewomen by a 21-9 margin, and had a
14-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Haverford returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game at
non-conference opponent Goucher.
